Ugandan heavyweights Vipers SC now know their hurdle on the road to the group stages of the CAF Champions League, they will square up against Zambia’s Power Dynamos in the second preliminary round.
The Venoms booked their place in this phase with a professional double over Namibia’s African Stars, edging both legs 1-0 for a 2-0 aggregate triumph. Their reward is a daunting tie against the reigning Zambian champions, who arrive with momentum of their own after knocking out one of Africa’s traditional giants.
The two-legged showdown kicks off at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, on October 17, before shifting to the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola a week later on October 24. Victory over two legs will guarantee a ticket to the lucrative group stages.

Power Dynamos’ Route to This Stage
While Vipers advanced with calm efficiency, Power Dynamos survived a rollercoaster. They stunned Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas in a dramatic tie settled by penalties.
The Zambians carried a slender advantage from the first leg in Ndola, where Innocent Kashita’s strike earned them a 1-0 win. But ASEC struck back in Abidjan, Fofana restoring parity on aggregate with a well-taken effort in the 53rd minute.
That second leg proved tempestuous, as the Ivorians had Seydou Lamine Sacko dismissed, while Dominic Chanda also saw red for Dynamos. With neither side able to find a decisive goal, the contest marched into a tense penalty shootout.
In the end, goalkeeper Lawrence Mulenga emerged the hero, producing a vital save to deny Romaric Amoussou and send the Zambian champions through 5-4 on spot kicks. The result sparked wild celebrations, sealing their date with Vipers.
