Uganda Cranes earned a narrow 2-1 victory over Chad in an international friendly played Friday evening at Stade Berrechid, with several new additions to the squad making a strong impression.
Head coach Paul Put fielded a refreshed line-up as he continued assessing options ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), and the experiment paid off.

Chad began the match with intensity, committing numbers forward and unsettling Uganda’s defence early on. Despite the pressure, the Cranes managed to keep the score level.
The breakthrough came in the 18th minute, when towering striker Ikpeazu Uchechukwu was brought down in the box by goalkeeper Mbaynaissem Jourdain. Ikpeazu calmly converted the resulting penalty, sending the keeper the wrong way to open the scoring.
Uganda’s shot-stopper Dennis Kiggundu was called into action shortly before half-time, producing a crucial one-on-one save to deny Tchaouna Haroun and preserve the lead.
Moments into the second half, Melvyn Lorenzen doubled Uganda’s advantage, pouncing on a defensive lapse and rifling home a well-timed volley.
Chad clawed one back in the 64th minute after Tchaouna converted from the spot, setting up a tense final half-hour. But Kiggundu remained sharp, notably parrying away a fierce effort from Marius Mouandilmad in the 70th minute to keep Uganda in control.

With confidence growing and valuable minutes earned, Uganda now shifts focus to a much-anticipated clash against Morocco on Tuesday, November 18, as AFCON preparations intensify.
