NEC Football Club are through to the FUFA Super 8 final after outlasting URA FC in a tense semifinal showdown at the Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Saturday.
The contest produced no goals in regulation time, with both sides cancelling each other out in a cagey affair that left the game to be settled from the spot. When the pressure mounted during the shootout, NEC held their nerve to prevail 4-3.
For the Lugogo-based outfit, Emmanuel Ajo, Kizza Mustapha, Joseph Dhata and Warren Buule were all spot-on, while Ibrahim Musa’s effort went begging. URA responded through Moses Aliro, Faisal Matovu and Abraham Tusubira, but Fred Amaku’s miss proved costly as the Tax Collectors bowed out.
The result makes NEC the first club to book a ticket to the final of this year’s competition, where they will meet the winner between SC Villa and BUL FC. That clash is set for FUFA Stadium, Kadiba, in Mengo.
The victory adds yet another feather to NEC’s rising profile as they continue to stake their claim among Uganda’s top football sides.
