URA FC has placed Edward Golola at the helm on an interim basis as the club regroups ahead of their midweek clash with Buhimba Saints, following the sudden dismissal of head coach Alex Isabirye and his entire backroom team.
The four-time league champions parted ways with Isabirye after a disappointing run that yielded just eight points from a possible 21, leaving the tax collectors languishing in 11th place. His departure also saw the exit of assistants Baker Kasule, Crespo Asiku, and goalkeeping coach Jamil Damba, leaving Golola, who joined the technical setup later, as the only surviving member of the staff.
URA confirmed the reshuffle in a statement released on Tuesday, indicating that Golola will take the reins for the upcoming fixture.
โIn the interim, Edward Golola will assume the Head Coach role and lead the team into our Match Day 8 fixture against Buhimba Saints on Wednesday, 26th November at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo. The club will announce a new permanent Head Coach and technical team in due course,โ the club confirmed in a statement on Tuesday.
Gololaโs first assignment will be guiding URA through the early kick-off of Wednesdayโs doubleheader at Hamz Stadium, where they will be desperate for only their second victory of the campaign.
URA, once a force in Ugandan football, have endured a decade-long trophy drought. Their last piece of silverware dates back to 2014 when they edged KCCA to lift the Uganda Cup, while their most recent league triumph was in 2011. The club now hopes that a shake-up in leadership can spark a turnaround in fortunes.
