After a long injury layoff, Derrick Nsibambi is set to feature for KCCA FC for the first time this season when the Kasasiro Boys host Calvary FC at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Friday.
The forward, who rejoined KCCA last year following a stint away from the club since 2018, has battled a series of injuries that have kept him off the pitch. He missed the first four league matches but is now fully fit after recovering from a groin strain and has been cleared for selection.
KCCA’s squad has received further reinforcement this week with the return to training of left-back James Mubezi and teenage attacker Yian Gatbel, both back from injury setbacks.

However, the team faces a few setbacks ahead of the clash. Defender Peter Magambo will miss the match after sustaining a concussion during training and remains under medical supervision. Brazilian midfielder Joao Gabriel is still sidelined as he undergoes rehabilitation from a groin injury, while Angolan winger Etienne Katenga is facing an extended absence due to a fibula injury. Additionally, youngsters Brian Jjara and academy captain Steven Oyirwoth are away on duty with the Uganda U-17 squad preparing for the World Cup.
Currently third in the Uganda Premier League standings, KCCA could leap to the top of the table with a victory, provided Buhimba United Saints fail to overcome SC Villa in Hoima. The Lugogo outfit has enjoyed a strong start to the campaign, recording eight wins, including high-profile triumphs over Express and SC Villa, alongside draws against Kitara and Lugazi.

Their opponents, Calvary FC, have struggled to find form and sit second from the bottom of the standings with just one point from a draw against Maroons, coupled with defeats to Lugazi and Buhimba United Saints.
Friday’s encounter promises to test KCCA’s resolve as Nsibambi aims to make an immediate impact following his injury woes.
