Vipers SC tightened their grip on a promising title charge after grinding out a 1-0 victory over arch-rivals KCCA FC in a tense Uganda Premier League battle under the Kitende lights. And once again, Allan Okello played the villain in the eyes of his former club.
The midfielder delivered the decisive blow in the 32nd minute, reacting quickest after Charles Lukwago failed to gather Yunus Sentamuโs strike. Okello stabbed in the rebound with the composure of someone who knows this script all too well. It was, after all, Okello who had already punished KCCA earlier this season, scoring in Vipersโ 2-0 triumph at Lugogo.

Vipers controlled long spells of the evening, carving out chances that should have widened the margin. Okello nearly doubled his tally moments later, drawing a smart stop from Lukwago after receiving a clever layoff from Karim Watambala. Milton Karisa then squandered the gameโs clearest opportunity when Ashraf Mandela served him a perfect low cross that begged for a finish.
KCCA struggled to impose themselves but nearly snatched an equaliser when Usama Arafat, facing Vipers for the first time since his departure, was inches away from tapping in, only for Herbert Achayi to sweep the ball off his toes with an exceptional last-ditch clearance.
The visitorsโ lone bright spark came through Emmanuel Anyama, whose glancing header forced Alfred Mudekereza into action, though the Vipers goalkeeper dealt with it comfortably.
For head coach Ivan Minnaert and his defending champions, the win makes it two narrow but controlled victories in two league outings, following their 1-0 opening success over Entebbe UPPC. The Venoms are only now catching up with the rest of the pack after their CAF Champions League schedule and earlier stand-off over the scrapped league format.
Allan Okello – A player whoโs never needed a second invitation to the party.

KCCA, meanwhile, taste defeat for the first time this season. The Lugogo side remain top on 11 points after six games, though they now feel Police FC breathing down their necks.
Vipers, though still in early-season gears, have sent a clear reminder: theyโre not relinquishing their crown without a fight.
