Ugandan forward Sadat Anaku has embarked on a new chapter in his professional career, putting pen to paper on a two-year deal with Hartford Athletic, a club that features in the USL Championship, America’s second division.
The Connecticut-based outfit secured Anaku’s signature after the striker parted ways with KCCA FC at the close of last season. His move to the U.S. comes after weeks of speculation linking him to URA FC, but the 23-year-old has opted instead for an overseas adventure.
A graduate of the KCCA FC junior academy, Anaku’s football journey began in 2016 while still studying at Kibuli Secondary School. During his time with the club’s youth ranks, he built a remarkable scoring record, finding the net 83 times in just 52 matches, a feat that still stands as the FUFA Juniors League’s all-time record.
His elevation to the KCCA senior side in 2019 marked the beginning of a productive spell, as he immediately showcased his talent with six goals in 17 appearances during his debut campaign.
Anaku is no stranger to international football either, having previously featured for Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership, experience that now sets him up for success in the American game.
With his move to Hartford, the energetic left-footed striker joins a growing contingent of Ugandan players in the U.S., such as Bobosi Byaruhanga, Allan Oyirwoth, Ibrahim Kasule, and Steven Sserwadda, all of whom continue to raise the country’s flag in North America.
