Vipers SC have pulled off a headline-grabbing signing with the capture of winger Arafat Usama, who has committed to a three-year deal after parting ways with rivals Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) FC.
The 21-year-old, out of contract since June 30, had been weighing options at home and abroad. Interest from South African outfits Marumo Gallants and TS Galaxy lingered, but the youngster chose to extend his career in Uganda with the reigning champions, a move already hailed as one of the boldest domestic transfers in recent memory.

Arafat leaves KCCA after three productive seasons marked by creativity and goals. This past campaign, he struck seven times and laid on six assists in 23 appearances despite fitness setbacks. The previous year, he notched 10 goals and six assists across league and continental duty.
His consistency earned him the armband as assistant captain of Ugandaโs U20 side at the 2024 All-Africa Games, where his three goals and two assists propelled the Hippos to a silver medal. He has since broken into the senior national team, collecting six caps.
Speaking to the club after sealing the deal, Usama said:
โIโm really excited to be joining Vipers SC, one of the top clubs in Uganda. To me, signing for Vipers SC means joining a big football family with ambition and a winning mentality.โ
โItโs an opportunity to challenge myself at the highest level in Uganda, compete for trophies, and represent the club in continental football. It also means growth for me as a player, gaining more exposure, and contributing to the legacy of a team that has achieved alot.โ
โIโm eager to get started, train hard, and make a positive impact for Vipers SC. The support of the fans, the clubโs management, and my teammates will be crucial in making this a successful tenure.โ
Usama now links up with Vipersโ raft of new signings, including Hney, Chukwuma, Mark Yallah, Kevin Dasylva Bady, Taddeo Lwanga, Ashraf Mandela, and Enock Ssebaggala, as the club reinforces its squad ahead of another title charge.
