Uganda Cranes captain Khalid Aucho has voiced his confidence ahead of their decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Algeria away from home, at the Hocine Ait Ahmed Stadium, insisting the team has what it takes to reach the global showpiece.

The Cranes sit second in Group G with 18 points after a crucial 1-0 win over Botswana, while Algeria have already sealed direct qualification with 22 points. Despite missing out on the top spot, Uganda remain in contention for a playoff berth as one of the best runners-up.

“We know this is a big game for us and for the country,” Aucho said to the press ahead of Tuesday’s clash. “Everyone understands what is at stake, and we are ready to fight until the last whistle. Algeria are a very strong team, but we believe in ourselves and in what we can achieve. The mood in camp is very positive, and we want to give our fans something to celebrate.”

Aucho also emphasized the team’s unity and determination to make history for Uganda.

“We’ve shown great character throughout this campaign, and this is the moment to finish it well,” he added. “Playing at home gives us confidence, with the fans behind us, we can push for the result we need. The dream is still alive, and we will do everything possible to keep it that way.”
