Uganda Cranes midfielder Joel Sserunjogi talking exclusively to Footy-Uganda hailed the side’s fighting spirit after starring and scoring in the 2-0 triumph over Niger in Monday’s African Nations Championships (CHAN) bout at the Mandela National Stadium.
Sserunjogi, who put up a Man of the Match show, bossed the midfield with crisp passing, fearless tackles, and relentless pressing, eventually capping up with the second goal in the 56th minute. Allan Okello had earlier netted in the 25th minute.

“It was all about belief and teamwork,” he said, as he spoke to Footy-Uganda in an exclusive interview. “Niger came with power and pace, but we matched their intensity and refused to be bullied.”
“When I won that ball, my first thought was to hurt them quickly,” he explained. “Seeing this finish over and again, and the fans erupt, that’s what you play for.”
“This is the standard,” Sserunjogi stressed. “If we keep this hunger and discipline, we can go all the way to the knockout stages and in the final rounds of the tournament.”
It was a performance that sent the Cranes top of Group C, with six points after three games. Algeria and South Africa, who have each played four games, sit second and third, respectively. Guinea occupy fourth with three points, while Niger are bottom with none.
