Uganda Cranes legend Geoffrey Massa has called for calm, patience and strong guidance for rising star James Bogere following the teenager’s inclusion in Paul Put’s provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Bogere, who impressed the nation with his standout displays for the Uganda Cubs at the recent FIFA U-17 World Cup, was on Saturday named among the preliminary squad members preparing for the continental showpiece. His rapid rise has generated excitement among fans, but Massa believes the youngster must be carefully managed.
“I have seen him play, and even in training… he is very talented and a good player,” Massa told the media.

“We saw him in the U-17, so we need to encourage him and protect him. If he performs well in training, I think he will play…. But we need to protect him, he is still young.”
Bogere’s composure, speed and tactical maturity at youth level earned him praise from coaches and analysts, and his summon to the senior setup is viewed as a bold but promising move by Paul Put.
As the Cranes gear up for AFCON in Morocco later this month, Massa’s words serve as a reminder that while Bogere’s potential is undeniable, his development and confidence must be safeguarded as he transitions to senior international football.
