Record Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa have cut ties with Technical Director Moses Basena in a surprising turn of events, just weeks after handing him the role.
The 2023/24 league champions confirmed the development on Saturday, a decision that arrives on the eve of the 2025/26 campaign and leaves fans stunned.
“The management of SC Villa informs the club fans and public that Mr. Basena Moses who has been acting as the club’s Technical Director has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect,” the club announced.

Basena had been unveiled on July 21, a move that was celebrated as a reunion with one of their own. His return, however, has ended abruptly before the new season could even begin.
The 56-year-old, who once donned the famous blue shirt, has a long-standing history with Villa, including stints in the dugout as Micho Sredojevic’s assistant in the early 2000s and later as head coach during the 2018/19 campaign.
No explanation was given for the sudden separation, and attempts to reach the veteran tactician for a reaction were unsuccessful.
