SC Villa stamped their authority on Ugandan football’s preseason showpiece, brushing aside NEC 2-0 to claim the 2025 FUFA Super 8 trophy at the FUFA Stadium, Kadiba, on Wednesday evening.

The Jogoos, who looked sharper and hungrier from the onset, set the tempo early and never allowed their opponents room to breathe. Their high pressing game and relentless energy ensured NEC were pinned back for most of the encounter.

Goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo was the busiest man on the pitch, denying Najib Yiga with a fine reflex save midway through the first half. But his resistance was finally broken right before the interval, when Ibrahim Kasinde unleashed a thunderous strike that left him rooted to the spot.

NEC briefly threatened after the restart, but their momentum was stifled by Villa’s well-organized backline. Yiga nearly doubled the lead in the 72nd minute, only for Ssebwalunyo to pull off yet another superb fingertip stop.

The decisive moment came late in the game, when Reagan Mpande ghosted into the box and applied the slightest of touches to redirect David Owori’s precise free kick into the net, sealing Villa’s victory in style.

For SC Villa, the triumph is more than just silverware, it is a statement of intent heading into the 2025/26 season. For NEC, the defeat is a setback they must quickly put behind them as they shift focus to their continental assignment against Nairobi Stars in the CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers this weekend.
