Under the bright Nakivubo floodlights, KCCA FC snatched a dramatic 1–0 victory over archrivals Express FC, thanks to a late finish from Sammy Ssebadduka that settled a tense Uganda Premier League encounter.
The win stretched KCCA’s unbeaten start to the campaign and piled more misery on the Red Eagles, whose stuttering form continued with a third straight game without victory.

Express began the night on the front foot, dictating the early tempo and carving out several dangerous moments. Rashid Kawawa nearly handed them the lead when he met Henry Wamala’s inviting cross with a thumping header that crashed against the crossbar, a warning shot that sent ripples through the KCCA backline.
At the other end, Ivan Ahimbisibwe squandered a golden opportunity for the visitors, blasting over from close range after fine link-up play by Saidi Mayanja.
The second half was a cagey affair, with Express maintaining their pressure and KCCA forced to defend deep. The Red Eagles thought they had finally breached the deadlock when Wamala’s effort slipped past goalkeeper Charles Lukwago, only for Filbert Obenchan to clear off the line in heroic fashion.
Then came the decisive moment. In the 71st minute, Joel Sserunjogi swung in a teasing corner that caused panic in the box, and Ssebadduka reacted quickest to bundle the ball home, sending the KCCA fans into raptures.

Express refused to give in, pushing for an equalizer late on. Isa Kasule saw his curling shot cannon off the post, while Lukwago produced a superb stop to deny Mikdad Ssenyonga’s well-struck free kick, ensuring KCCA held firm until the final whistle.
After four rounds of matches, KCCA FC climb to third place on the 16-team table with eight points, while Express find themselves languishing in seventh with just three points to their name.
