KCCA FC midfielder Joel Sserunjogi has set his sights on becoming more than just the engine room of the Kasasiro Boys’ midfield, as the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season gathers momentum.
Known for his tireless work rate and combative presence in the middle of the park, the 23-year-old wants to transform his game by adding a sharper attacking edge—one that can help propel both his personal growth and KCCA’s title ambitions.
Since joining the club two years ago, Sserunjogi has earned the trust of his coaches and fans alike with his consistency and maturity. Yet, with only one career goal in yellow and blue, he acknowledges that his next step is to start influencing games in the opposition half.
“I am challenging myself to be more involved in the final third this season,” Sserunjogi stated, before adding, “The role of a modern defensive midfielder is changing, and if I am to achieve my personal goals, I need to see myself scoring and assisting more often.”
That mindset reflects the midfielder’s evolving understanding of his role as he looks to bridge defence and attack with more intent. “I want to become a crucial link between our defence and attack,” he emphasized confidently.
CHAN 2024: “Belief and teamwork were key,” Sserunjogi on Uganda’s win over Niger
Sserunjogi’s growth has not gone unnoticed at the national level. His performances for Uganda at CHAN 2024, where he netted a stunning goal against Niger, showcased his potential to deliver when it matters most. The experience, he says, was transformative.
“The experience with the Uganda Cranes at CHAN was incredible and a huge motivator, but what keeps me in that national team setup is performing consistently well for KCCA,” he said. “Every time I step onto the pitch for the club, I am representing my country, my club, my family, and myself.”
Despite his personal ambitions, Sserunjogi insists that team success remains at the heart of everything he does. The midfielder’s ultimate mission is to help restore KCCA’s winning culture.
“Above all my personal objectives, including goals, assists, and final third penetration, is my desire to win silverware with KCCA,” he affirmed. “This is a club of champions, and we owe it to our fans and the badge to deliver trophies. That is the main target, and everything I do on the field is aimed at achieving that goal.”
With KCCA unbeaten and sitting on five points from their first three matches, Sserunjogi and his teammates will aim to maintain their early-season momentum when they face Express FC on Thursday, October 23, 2025, under the floodlights at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, in what promises to be a fierce contest.
