Kitara left Luzira with far more than just three points, walking away with a statement 1–0 win over Maroons FC that snapped the hosts’ impressive home streak in the Uganda Premier League.
Buoyed by news before kick-off that they had been handed three points from their abandoned fixture against Vipers SC, the Royals stepped onto the turf at Prison Grounds with visible belief.
The early stages, however, were cagey and disjointed, with both sides feeling each other out rather than committing bodies forward. Possession changed hands often, but clear openings were rare as rhythm proved hard to find.
The breakthrough arrived just before the interval, and it came wrapped in controversy. John Byaruhanga bundled the ball goalwards in the 36th minute, a moment that sparked immediate protests from the home side.

Defender Norman Odipio was convinced he had done enough on the line, insisting the danger had been dealt with before the ball crossed fully over. The officials saw it differently, and Kitara took the lead into the break.
Maroons attempted to muster a response, but their play in the final third lacked bite. Promising build-ups fizzled out at the edge of the area, with hurried decisions and wayward touches denying them a clear sight of goal. Kitara, meanwhile, were content to sit in their shape, slow the game down, and frustrate the hosts into rushed passes.
After the restart, the tempo dipped further. The visitors grew increasingly comfortable without the ball, dropping deeper and soaking up pressure with disciplined lines.
The hosts probed and prodded but struggled to turn territory into genuine threat. Late on, Ivan Asaba injected a burst of urgency, carrying the ball with intent and trying to spark something decisive, but his cameo came too late to tilt the contest.
When the final whistle went, it confirmed a narrow yet priceless away win for Kitara, one that lifts them into second place on 32 points.

For Maroons, the defeat ends a long run of home resilience dating back to April 2025 and leaves them stalled on 18 points after 16 league outings, searching for answers after another afternoon of near-misses and frustration.
