SC Villa were left angered by another contentious refereeing decision after suffering a narrow 1-0 loss to Police FC in a Uganda Premier League encounter played at the Kira Road Playground in Kamwokya on Tuesday.
The Jogoos believed they had earned a crucial equaliser, only for the moment to be ruled out, adding to growing frustration over recent officiating calls that have gone against them.
Police FC eventually secured all three points thanks to a first-half strike from Lawrence Tezikya. The forward forced the ball over the line from close range after Ibrahim Abubaker Ssengooba delivered a teasing pass into the penalty area that unsettled Villa’s defence.
Villa pushed for a response and thought their persistence had paid off midway through the contest. Frank Ssebuufu guided the ball into the net after meeting a low delivery from Hassan Mubiru, sparking celebrations among the visitors.

However, those celebrations were short-lived as the assistant referee immediately signaled for offside, disallowing the goal. The decision triggered protests from Villa players and members of the technical bench.
Replays from the incident appeared to contradict the ruling. Footage suggested that Ssebuufu was positioned behind the ball at the moment Mubiru played the cross, while Mubiru himself seemed to have timed his run perfectly to stay onside when he initially received the long ball.
The disputed moment came just days after Villa had already found themselves on the wrong end of another controversial call in their fixture against Express FC.
During Sunday’s match, Mubiru had a goal ruled out for offside after connecting with a pass from Aslam Ssemakula. The decision was later reviewed and judged to have been incorrect.
In response, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) took disciplinary action by sanctioning assistant referee Immaculate Ongiera for the error.

Tuesday’s encounter also saw Police FC have a second goal disallowed when Bedia Djuma Ikamba was penalised for a foul in the build-up before the ball found the back of the net.
Despite the disappointing result, SC Villa remain on 35 points in the league standings. Their total could still change depending on the resolution of their abandoned match against Calvary FC.
