SC Villa return to the drawing board after last weekend’s setback against BUL, turning their attention to a home showdown with struggling Mbarara City at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.
The Jogoos are under pressure to bounce back quickly and a victory on home turf would steady the ship as the race at the top begins to take shape.
Despite the recent stumble, Villa head into the contest as clear favourites. Their opponents arrive in disarray, still dealing with off-field issues that left them stretched to the limit in a recent stalemate with Lugazi, where they were forced to cope with major squad disruptions.
The Ankole Lions have since sidelined several influential figures, with Henry Kitegenyi, Ibrahim Thembo and Fahad Emuran all unavailable following suspensions that also ruled them out in Kamwenge.

Villa, meanwhile, could receive a timely boost with the possible return of Misi Diego Ssemugera, who missed the defeat to BUL. There is also intrigue around Ibrahim Kasinde’s status after he was left out of the starting lineup last time out, making way for Patrick Kakande. Decisions in midfield and attack will be crucial as the 17-time champions look to reassert control.
Much will rest on the shoulders of a familiar core. Kasinde, if recalled, alongside Hassan Mubiru, Frank Ssebuufu and Aslam Ssemakula, are expected to provide the drive and quality needed to secure maximum points and remain in touch with the league’s frontrunners.
History also tilts in Villa’s favour. They have dominated this fixture over the years, claiming eight wins from the last 13 meetings, while losing only three. Even more telling is their recent record, having emerged victorious in four of the last five encounters between the sides.
For Mbarara City, the outlook remains grim. They sit marooned on 11 points, locked in the relegation zone with only Calvary worse off at this stage of the campaign. Any result at Kadiba would be a welcome lifeline, but the odds are stacked firmly against them.
