KCCA staged a spirited comeback in Jinja on Sunday evening, overturning a first-half deficit to edge BUL 2–1 in a pulsating Uganda Premier League encounter at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru. The result showcased the visitors’ resilience and propelled them back to the summit of the table, at least temporarily.

The Eastern Giants struck first, with George Kasonko breaking the deadlock in the 37th minute after a spell of sustained pressure. BUL carried that slim advantage into the break, having successfully frustrated KCCA’s attempts to equalise.

But the game flipped after half-time. KCCA returned with renewed urgency and were quickly rewarded when Sammy Ssebaduka powered home the leveller in the 58th minute, shifting momentum firmly in favour of the Kasasiro Boys.

The closing minutes were tense, appearing destined to produce a stalemate, until KCCA made a decisive change. Ssebaduka, the scorer of the equaliser, was withdrawn in the 88th minute for Alex Yiga. The substitution proved inspired.

Barely two minutes after stepping onto the pitch, Yiga delivered the knockout blow, firing in a dramatic 90th-minute winner that left the home side stunned and the visiting fans in raptures.

For KCCA, the victory couldn’t have been more timely. It lifts them back to the top of the 16-team league standings with 20 points from eight games. They now sit three points clear of Vipers, SC Villa, and Police, each locked on 17 points, though Vipers still hold two games in hand.

BUL, on the other hand, remain stuck in 11th place, their inconsistent run continuing with only two wins, four draws, and three defeats to show from their opening fixtures.

KCCA’s late heroics ensure that the title race remains intriguing, especially with Vipers lurking just behind, preparing to capitalise on their outstanding fixtures.
