URA FC wrapped up their FUFA Super 8 campaign on a high after edging BUL FC 1-0 in the third-place playoff at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba, on Wednesday evening.

Winger Moses Aliro provided the decisive moment of quality, steering home a well-timed header late in the first half to hand the Tax Collectors a deserved victory.

Head coach Alex Isabirye shuffled his pack ahead of kick-off, bringing in goalkeeper Chrispas Kusiima for his first tournament start in place of Mohamed Sekeba. The change seemed to steady URA’s defense, which held firm against BUL’s late surge.

The match kicked off at a frantic pace, with URA nearly on the scoreboard inside the opening minutes. Ronald Otti rose highest to meet an Aliro cross, only to watch his header flash narrowly wide.

The Tax Collectors were handed a golden chance in the 36th minute after a BUL defender handled in the box. New signing Nelson Ssenkatuka stepped up but saw his penalty attempt brilliantly stopped, much to the frustration of the URA bench.

Isabirye’s side, however, refused to let the miss dent their momentum. Five minutes before the interval, Aliro made amends, glancing in Laban Tibita’s corner to send URA ahead.

From then on, BUL pushed hard in search of an equaliser, but URA’s rearguard, marshalled by the experienced Otti, stood resilient.

Speaking to the press after the match, Isabirye praised his charges for bouncing back from their semifinal disappointment:

“We wanted to finish the tournament with dignity, and today the boys showed great character. It wasn’t an easy game, especially after missing the penalty, but the response was exactly what I wanted,” he said.

The coach also reserved special praise for match-winner Aliro and debutant keeper Kusiima:

“Aliro keeps proving that he can deliver in the big moments, and today he gave us that spark we needed. As for Kusiima, he came in with confidence and gave the defense a lot of belief. That’s what we ask for, competition in every position.”
