Forward Tito Okello has embarked on another chapter of his nomadic career after completing a move to Ethiopian Premier League outfit Mechal FC, Footy-Uganda understands.

The lanky forward has signed a one-year deal with the Ethiopian Defence Forces-affiliated club after leaving Libyan side Al Sadaqa Sports Club, where he spent part of the previous campaign.

Okello arrives in Ethiopia as one of the more experienced forwards on the continent, having built an extensive footballing résumé across several countries and leagues. His career has taken him through Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Macau, Iran, Libya and Indonesia.

In Uganda, Okello turned out for some of the country’s most recognisable clubs, featuring for KCCA FC, BUL FC, SC Villa and Vipers SC in the Uganda Premier League. His travels in East Africa also included spells with Tanzania’s Africa Lyon and Mbeya City, as well as Kenyan heavyweights Gor Mahia and Kenya Police FC.

His career later ventured beyond the region, with the striker playing for Benfica Macau in Macau, Iranian outfit Paykan FC and Indonesian club PSM Makassar.

Libya has been his most recent footballing base. Okello spent the last two seasons in the North African country, representing Abelasshar SC, Libyan Stadium FC and, most recently, Al Sadaqa SC.

He now joins a Mechal FC side that has previously provided a platform for Ugandan players, including Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi and former Express FC forward Charles Musiige.

Alionzi is currently without a club, while Musiige has since moved on to Bahir Dar City following his departure from Mechal.

Internationally, Okello has become an important figure in South Sudan’s national team setup. After switching his allegiance from Uganda in 2021, he has been part of the Bright Stars’ continued development on the international stage.

His move to Mechal FC therefore adds another destination to an increasingly global career, with the South Sudanese forward now set to test himself in Ethiopia’s top flight.
