Uganda’s steady progress on the international football stage has been rewarded with a six-place jump in the latest FIFA world rankings released today. The Cranes climbed from 88th in July to 82nd globally, marking one of their most notable ranking gains in recent years.

The upward movement follows Uganda’s encouraging run in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where they notched back-to-back victories over Somalia and Mozambique. Added to that, the Cranes wrote a new chapter in their history at the African Nations Championship (CHAN), advancing beyond the group stage for the very first time.

Despite not yet breaking into the continent’s elite top 10, Uganda’s rise places them 15th in Africa, a sign of growing consistency and competitiveness.

Across the continent, Morocco continue to lead the way, ranked 11th worldwide. Senegal (18th) and Egypt (35th) complete Africa’s top three.

Globally, Spain remain firmly at the summit of world football, followed by France, Argentina, and England.
