Reigning champions Vipers SC began their Uganda Premier League title defence with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Entebbe UPPC at the Fisheries Ground, Bugonga.
Midfielder Karim Watambala struck the decisive goal in the 62nd minute, coolly finishing after a clever pass from Yunus Sentamu.
It was a victory carved out through grit rather than glamour, as the Venoms, playing catch-up following their earlier league boycott and continental fixtures, had to dig deep to secure all three points.

New boys Entebbe UPPC put up a spirited fight, refusing to be intimidated by their decorated opponents. Former Vipers forward Isa Bugembe almost punished his old side late on, but goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza pulled off a superb save to preserve the lead and earn the Man of the Match award.
At the final whistle, relief washed over the champions as they climbed to 13th place, while Entebbe dropped to 8th with seven points.
Vipers will now turn their attention to a mouthwatering home clash against KCCA FC at Kitende next Friday, as Entebbe travel to Calvary FC in search of redemption.
