As Uganda’s U-17 national team, the Cubs, prepare to mark their first-ever appearance at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, defender Hamuza Sengooba has stressed that their biggest weapon may not be their boots, but their minds.

With the countdown to kick-off fast approaching, the young defender believes that mental resilience will be just as important as physical readiness if the team is to make an impression on the global stage.

Sengooba revealed to the press that he is dedicating the final phase of preparations to fine-tuning his mindset and staying focused, saying that mental discipline and positive energy will fuel his performance.

“Personally, of course I should have the right mentality and come with the right energy on and off the pitch. Starting my preparations as an individual and having the right mindset will help me bring the right performance on the pitch and push as much as I can,” Sengooba said.

He added that maintaining this mental edge will not only elevate his own game but also help the team deliver when it matters most.

“This will also allow me to help the team get the positive result we want,” he noted.

Uganda face a tough baptism of fire in Group K, where they are drawn against Canada, Chile, and France, a challenging trio for the debutants. But for Sengooba and his teammates, belief and composure could be the difference between merely competing and making history.
