The Uganda Premier League serves up its first heavyweight clash of the season this Friday as Vipers SC finally return to their fortress in Kitende, welcoming long-time rivals KCCA FC in a night encounter loaded with anticipation.
For Vipers, this is only their second league outing of the campaign. Their lone assignment so far, a gritty 1-0 victory over Entebbe UPPC at Bugonga, was settled by a moment of class from Abdul Karim Watambala, whose calm finish ensured the Venoms started their season on the right note.
The Rivalry
KCCA arrive with a weightier rรฉsumรฉ. Five matches in, they sit comfortably at the league summit with 11 points, and their most recent win over topflight debutants Calvary FC at Lugogo underlined their confident start under the early-season spotlight.

The rivalry needs no introduction. Last seasonโs chapter at Kitende produced late drama, with Milton Karisaโs opener wiped out by Ashraf Mugumeโs late equaliser. But the return leg at Lugogo was far more straightforward, Vipers strolled to a 2-0 win through goals from Yunus Sentamu and Allan Okello.
Across the years, the margins have remained razor-thin. In league meetings, Vipers edge the head-to-head with 16 victories against KCCAโs 14, with nine stalemates splitting them. The Venoms also walked away with bragging rights in the Uganda Cup final last season, defeating the Kasasiro Boys thanks to goals from Sentamu and defensive enforcer Livingstone Mulondo.

Vipersโ first triumph over their nemesis dates all the way back to September 28, 2008, when Yudah Mugalu struck twice and Caesar Okhuti added another in a commanding 3-1 win at Nakivubo, ending a six-match wait for their maiden victory in the fixture.
With history simmering, pride at stake, and both clubs eager to stamp their authority early, Friday night at Kitende promises a fiery new installment in one of Ugandan footballโs most compelling battles.
