As 2026 takes shape, progress across several sectors remains a work in motion, and Ugandan football officiating is no exception. In a significant stride forward, the country’s refereeing department has been reinforced with an expanded pool of officials holding the prestigious Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) badge.
A total of 25 Ugandan referees have earned FIFA recognition, forming a balanced mix of seasoned officials and emerging talents expected to shape the game in the years ahead.
Elite match officials take centre stage
The list features eight centre referees, headlined by Shamirah Nabadda, who continues to retain her FIFA badge and is currently officiating at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, an endorsement of her growing stature on the continental stage.
She is joined by Lucky Razake Kasalirwe, Dick Okello, Diana Murungi, William Oloya, Josephine Nantongo, Joshua Duula, and George Olemu.
Notably, Dick Okello makes the transition from assistant referee to centre referee, having previously held a FIFA badge in that role before opting to take charge in the middle.

Trusted assistants strengthen the line
Uganda’s FIFA-recognised contingent is further bolstered by 11 assistant referees, combining experience with fresh energy. Leading the group is the dependable Ronald Katenya, whose consistency has earned him continued trust.
The assistant referee lineup also includes Immaculate Ongiera, Emmanuel Okudra, Elizabeth Nassolo, Hakim Mulindwa, Jane Mutonyi, Brainson Musisi, Lydia Wanyama Nantabo, Ashraf Katerega, Babrah Nayebare, and Ashraf Magoola.
Step forward, not the destination
While challenges remain within the broader football ecosystem, this expanded FIFA-accredited refereeing list represents a meaningful leap forward.
It reflects deliberate investment in officiating standards and signals Uganda’s intent to remain competitive and credible on both regional and international football stages as 2026 unfolds.
