Uganda Cranes forward Muhammad Shaban has sealed a switch to Kenyan Premier League outfit Nairobi United, adding another prominent Ugandan name to the club’s increasingly familiar ranks.
The seasoned striker arrives as a free agent after severing ties with Kitara FC, whom he joined in February 2026. His stay with the Hoima-based side lasted only a few months, with Shaban choosing to move on after the conclusion of the 2025/26 campaign.
His arrival in Nairobi further strengthens a remarkable Ugandan presence within the Nairobi United dressing room, with the club already home to several players from across the border.
Shaban will share the dressing room with former Uganda Cranes left-back Mustapha Kizza, Charles Waibi, Titus Ssematimba and teenage midfielder Gavin Kizito, who was unveiled by the club earlier this month.
The growing Ugandan contingent has consequently turned Nairobi United into something of a satellite attraction for Ugandan football followers, who now have an increasingly compelling reason to keep a close eye on the Kenyan side.
For Shaban, the move represents another chapter in a career that has taken him through some of the biggest clubs and leagues in the region.
He first captured widespread attention with Onduparaka FC before earning opportunities at Ugandan heavyweights Vipers SC and KCCA FC. His career has subsequently stretched beyond Uganda, with the striker testing himself in Libya and Ethiopia while also spending time with Moroccan powerhouse Raja Casablanca.
A move to Kenya has been on Shaban’s radar before. He once came close to joining Gor Mahia, although the proposed transfer ultimately failed to materialise.
Now, Nairobi United have secured his signature, bringing in a forward whose physical presence, aerial prowess and instinct in front of goal could prove valuable as the club reshapes its attacking options.
With considerable domestic experience, exposure to several foreign leagues and a history with the Uganda Cranes, Shaban arrives carrying both pedigree and expectation as Nairobi United prepare for the new season.
