Ugandan attacker Sadam Masereka has taken the next big leap in his career, completing a move to USL Championship outfit Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in a deal that runs through the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
The 21-year-old arrives in Colorado with momentum behind him, stepping into the professional game after an impressive rise through the American college system and national youth team football with Uganda.
Masereka has featured for both the U-20 and U-23 sides, building a reputation as a sharp, fearless forward with a taste for big moments.
Speaking after putting pen to paper, the winger could not hide his excitement:
“I am excited to start my professional career with the Switchbacks. I can’t wait to play and meet the fans.”
Masereka’s path to Colorado Springs has been anything but ordinary. Earlier this year, he was selected by Sporting Kansas SC in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft, going 34th overall in the second round.
While that draft nod signaled his growing profile, it is the Switchbacks who have moved quickly to secure his services and offer him a clear runway into senior football.
His college career reads like a steady climb up the ladder. At the University of Maryland, Masereka delivered a standout senior campaign, collecting a string of individual honors, including 2025 United Soccer Coaches All-North Region First Team, All-Big Ten First Team, and Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week.
He rose to the occasion against elite opposition and made his mark in the NCAA Tournament, closing out his two-year spell with the Terrapins with 39 appearances, 13 goals and seven assists.

Before making the jump to the Big Ten, the Ugandan forward was a dominant force at Lindsey Wilson College. Over two seasons, he clocked 3,025 minutes, scored 22 goals and supplied seven assists, playing a central role in Mid-South Conference title runs and earning First Team All-American honors. The step-by-step progression has shaped a player known for his work rate, direct running and attacking instincts.
Switchbacks Technical Director Alan McCann believes the club has secured more than just raw talent:
“Sadam is an extremely driven, intelligent, and intrinsically motivated character. He has done very well to rise through the ranks in college soccer from Lindsey Wilson to Maryland. He will add more danger and threat to our attack as a winger, and we are looking forward to him putting his stamp on the league.”
Masereka is not the only fresh face heading to Weidner Field. The Switchbacks have also brought in Adrien Perez, Khori Bennett, Dane Valenti and Aaron Pondeca on academy deals as the club continues to invest in youthful depth and long-term growth.

Founded in December 2013, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC have steadily carved out their identity in the USL Championship. The club plays its home matches at the 8,000-capacity Weidner Field in Colorado Springs and is owned by Weidner Apartment Homes, with Brad Estes serving as president.
For Masereka, the move marks the beginning of a new chapter, a chance to translate years of college dominance and international youth experience into consistent impact on the professional stage.
