Uganda’s preparations for the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations have officially begun after head coach Laryea Kingston announced a provisional development squad set to start early training.

The young Cubs will compete at the continental showpiece scheduled to take place in Morocco from April 25 to May 15, 2026. The tournament will not only crown Africa’s youth champions but will also form part of the qualification route to the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Kingston’s selected group will assemble at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru beginning Tuesday, March 10, where the technical bench will assess the players and start shaping the squad ahead of the tournament.

Uganda booked their place at the finals after an impressive run at the CECAFA U-17 Championship last year, where they finished runners-up to secure qualification for the continental competition.

The early training camp is expected to help the coaching staff evaluate talent, build chemistry within the squad, and gradually prepare the youngsters for the intensity of Africa’s premier youth football event.

Provisional squad

Ssesazi Anderson Earnet (Kawempe Muslim SS / URA FC JT), Ismail Habib (Kawempe Muslim SS), Epila Emmanuel (Mentor SS), Kawooya Nicholas (Buddo SS), Ibanda Arafat (Buddo SS / NEC JT), Owen Mukisa (Vipers JT / Seth Academy), Mwesigwa Enock (Volf Academy), Inshirah Mahyoub (Edgars Youth Academy / Kibuli SS), Kizito Ukasha (Proline Academy), Ukasha Abudshafi Jemba (KCCA FC JT), Kombi Eze (Amus College School), Mubiru Geofrey (Amus College School), Muhoozi Henry (Amus College School), Hilal Ajiga (Amus College School), Olwa Brian (Edgars Youth Academy / Bukedea Comprehensive School), Isabirye Eric (Rays of Grace / Bukedea Comprehensive School), Ssenyonga Yusuf (Bukedea Comprehensive School), Kivumbi Najib (Excel Academy), Mugisha Hannington (Excel Academy), Asobola Joshua (Excel Academy), Mukwanga Adrian (St. Mary’s Kitende), Owino John Brian (St. Mary’s Kitende) and Ngobi Shakur (Green Light Islamic School).
