Charles Lwanga enjoyed a dream return to KCCA FC, finding the back of the net as the Kasasiro Boys claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over BUL FC in the opening leg of their 2026 FUFA Super 8 quarterfinal at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on Saturday.
The clash officially kicked off this year’s edition of the preseason competition, which features the eight highest-ranked clubs from the previous Uganda Premier League campaign.
Lwanga, back in yellow after his spell away from the club, wasted little time making his presence felt. The forward combined with Saidi Mayanja on the scoresheet to hand KCCA a slender first-leg advantage, while Reagan Kalyowa’s penalty ensured BUL remained firmly in the tie.
Both coaches entrusted several fresh arrivals with starting roles as they assessed their revamped squads ahead of the new season.

KCCA handed debuts to Yunus Sibira, Elvis Ngonde and the returning Lwanga, while BUL unveiled a host of new faces, including Jeans Brady Wokorach, Cyrus Kibande, Faizo Matovu, George Kaddu, Frank Katongole and George Masembe.
The breakthrough arrived in the 14th minute when Lwanga reacted quickest inside the area to poke home from close range and cap a memorable comeback appearance.
BUL, however, restored parity almost immediately. Three minutes later, Herbert Achai brought down Dennis Ssewagudde inside the penalty area, allowing Kalyowa to confidently convert from the spot.
The contest remained finely balanced until Mayanja struck what proved to be the decisive goal, giving KCCA the upper hand heading into the return leg.

The two sides will renew hostilities next Friday, with the aggregate winner securing a place in the semifinals of the competition.
Elsewhere, SC Villa were denied victory late on after Marvin Oshaba rescued a 1-1 draw for Maroons. Aslam Ssemakula had earlier given the record league champions the lead before the late equaliser left the tie evenly poised ahead of the second leg.
