Ugandan football has been rocked by tragedy following the death of SC Villa captain David Owori, who succumbed to injuries after being attacked by unknown assailants on Monday night.
The defender was assaulted near his home in Makindye at around 8:00 p.m. before being rushed to Case Hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts to save his life, Owori later passed away, leaving the record Uganda Premier League champions and the wider football fraternity devastated.
Earlier, before news of his death emerged, SC Villa Public Relations Officer Asan Kasingye had revealed details of the attack in a post on X.

Comfortable at right-back and across the defensive line, Owori developed into one of the league’s most reliable performers. His calm presence, tactical awareness and consistency earned him the trust of teammates and coaches alike, eventually seeing him entrusted with the captain’s armband.
Having risen through the domestic game, Owori carved out a reputation as a disciplined professional whose leadership extended beyond matchdays. He was regarded as a unifying figure in the dressing room and a player who embodied the values and tradition of SC Villa.
His untimely death has sent shockwaves across the football community, with an outpouring of grief expected from teammates, former colleagues, clubs, administrators and supporters.
