Experienced goalkeeper Charles Lukwago is moments away from a return back between the posts at Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club, signing a two-year deal that marks the start of his second spell with the Ugandan giants, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

The versed custodian rejoins KCCA FC as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with South African side Venda Academy in June. While he had been on the verge of completing a high-profile switch to Siwelele FC, formerly SuperSport United, last-minute breakdowns in negotiations paved the way for a homecoming to Lugogo, Footy-Uganda reliably understands.

For KCCA fans, the move feels like a reunion with a trusted old guard. Lukwago was the club’s first-choice shot-stopper from 2017 to 2021, before embarking on a continental adventure in Ethiopia with St. George SC, later turning out for Hawassa City.

Rogers Mugisha unveiled at KCCA FC on a two-year deal

His professional journey started with Lweza FC and included spells at Victoria University and Proline FC, laying the foundation for a glittering career that has seen him don the Uganda Cranes jersey on numerous occasions.

At 30, Lukwago brings not only elite-level reflexes but also veteran leadership to a KCCA squad undergoing a major rebuild. The club has been one of the most active in the ongoing transfer window, already securing signatures from Enock Walusimbi, Rogers Mugisha, Lazaro Bwambale, Ivan Ahimbisibwe, and Herbert Achai.

Lukwago’s return is widely seen as a statement of intent from the 13-time league champions, who are desperate to reclaim their dominance in Ugandan football.
