Uganda’s second-tier football championship, the FUFA Big League, will roar back to life on Sunday, September 28, 2025, as the official fixture list for the new season has been confirmed.

The first round of the campaign will stretch until January 11, 2026, before the competition takes a short recess. Action will then resume on February 22, 2026, and run all the way to the dramatic finale scheduled for Sunday, June 7, 2026.

As always, the stakes remain high: the top two clubs at the end of the season will march directly into the Uganda Premier League (UPL), while the team finishing third must navigate a tense promotion playoff against the third-from-bottom side in the UPL for the final ticket.

Big Names in the Mix

Relegated giants Wakiso Giants headline the new season after tumbling out of the topflight last May, ending their six-year stay among Uganda’s elite. They will kick off their redemption mission with a home clash against Young Elephant, one of the newly promoted teams from the Regional League.

Elsewhere, fellow demoted sides Bright Stars and Mbale Heroes face stern opening-day assignments on the road. Bright Stars will square off with Kataka, while Mbale Heroes travel east to battle Iganga United.

Fresh Faces, Familiar Battles

Four clubs: Booma, MYDA, Busoga United, and Arua Hill, bowed out of the Big League last season, paving way for a quartet of ambitious Regional League entrants eager to make their mark.

With the blend of seasoned campaigners, fallen UPL sides desperate for a quick return, and fearless debutants out to shake the establishment, the 2025/26 FUFA Big League is shaping up to be one of the fiercest and most unpredictable editions in recent memory.
