SC Villa edged past rivals KCCA FC with a narrow but significant 1-0 triumph, thanks to a decisive strike from Hassan Mubiru in a fiercely contested Kampala Derby on Saturday.
Played at FUFA Stadium Kadiba, the encounter saw KCCA dominate possession for long stretches, dictating the tempo and probing for openings. However, despite their control, it was SC Villa who showed greater efficiency when it mattered most.

KCCA fashioned the clearer opportunities in the opening phases, but they were repeatedly denied by an inspired performance from SC Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago. The shot-stopper produced key saves, notably tipping away dangerous efforts from Herbert Achai and Nana Kwikiriza to keep his side level.
The breakthrough finally arrived just after the hour mark. Mubiru showcased individual brilliance, shrugging off his marker before bending a well-placed effort beyond goalkeeper Mugolofa to give Villa the lead.
Facing his former club did little to dampen Mubiru’s emotions. After finding the net, he celebrated passionately, feeding off the electric atmosphere generated by the Villa faithful.
KCCA responded with urgency, throwing numbers forward in search of an equaliser during the closing stages. Yet SC Villa’s defensive unit remained resolute, absorbing pressure and protecting their slender advantage until the final whistle.

Beyond the three points, the result carries deeper significance. It brings an end to KCCA’s six-year dominance in the Kampala Derby, marking a symbolic shift in the rivalry.
Despite the victory, SC Villa sit fourth on the table with 44 points, just behind KCCA, who remain third with 45 points after 22 matches.
