Kitara were left to rue a costly miss from twelve yards as Entebbe UPPC edged them 1-0 in a tense Uganda Premier League clash at the Bugonga Fisheries Ground on Wednesday.

The hosts struck the decisive blow midway through the first half when John Kokas Alou finished off a slick passing move in the 34th minute. The goal was the product of sharp combination play, with Isa Mubiru and Hassan Ssenyonjo intricately involved before Alou applied the final touch to send the home fans into celebration.

UPPC could have doubled their advantage earlier, Ambrose Kigozi going agonisingly close after being picked out by Muhammad Kyeyune, but his effort drifted inches wide. Hassan Ssenyonjo also threatened after the interval, coming close shortly after the hour mark as the hosts continued to press.

Kitara’s best opportunity to salvage something from the contest arrived late on. The referee pointed to the spot after Jonathan Odongo brought down Jasper Aheebwa inside the area, handing the visitors a golden chance to level matters. However, substitute Emmanuel Alex Wasswa, introduced in the 75th minute to replace Hussein Ssenoga, squandered the moment by blasting his penalty well off target, effectively crushing Kitara’s hopes of a comeback.

Beyond that moment, Kitara found it difficult to carve out clear openings. Isaac Amutuhaire had an early sight of goal in the 17th minute but failed to trouble the goalkeeper, summing up a frustrating afternoon for the visitors.

The victory lifts Abdallah Mubiru’s UPPC side to fifth place on the league standings with 20 points, marking their sixth win in 11 outings this season. Kitara, meanwhile, slip just below them in sixth with 19 points, having suffered their third defeat of the campaign, though they still hold a game in hand.
