Uganda Cranes skipper Khalid Aucho has once again proven that class is permanent, even when the setting changes.

When the midfield powerhouse called time on his glittering spell with Young Africans SC, few expected him to keep his continental fire burning. Yet, just months after joining Singida Black Stars, the veteran enforcer is right back where he belongs, at the heart of African football’s grand theatre, the CAF Confederation Cup.

Aucho rallies Uganda to carry ‘fighting spirit’ into AFCON battle

Aucho’s transfer to Singida at the start of the 2025/26 Tanzanian Premier League season raised eyebrows. After all, leaving a continental heavyweight like Yanga, where he lifted multiple league and cup titles, looked like a step-down. But in true Aucho fashion, he turned skepticism into another opportunity to lead from the front.

Singida, a club steadily carving its own identity among Tanzania’s elite, earned the chance to represent the nation in CAF Confederation Cup qualifying rounds. And with Aucho marshalling the engine room, their campaign gathered real momentum.

The Ugandan maestro’s arrival instantly injected composure, control, and authority into Singida’s midfield. His trademark grit and game intelligence proved decisive as the team brushed aside opponents to reach the group stage, the first in the club’s history.

Their decisive moment came against Flambeau du Centre of Burundi in the second preliminary round. A gritty 1–1 draw away from home set the stage for a commanding performance in Tanzania, where Singida dispatched their visitors 3-1, sealing a 4-2 aggregate victory and their ticket to the next round.

Aucho was, as ever, the heartbeat, breaking play, dictating tempo, and rallying teammates with his trademark calm under pressure.

Now, as the competition enters its most demanding phase, the Cranes captain finds himself once again flying the Ugandan flag high across Africa. For a player who has graced the continental stage for years, this new chapter is more than just another campaign, it’s a statement that his influence still stretches far beyond national borders.

For Ugandan football, Aucho’s journey is a reminder that persistence and professionalism continue to open doors for East African talent. His consistency for club and country has made him not only a leader but also a symbol of reliability on the African stage.
