Uganda’s national football team, the Cranes, are gearing up for a mouthwatering international friendly against North African giants Morocco during the upcoming FIFA International Window.

The match is slated for November 18 in Tangier, according to confirmation from the official Morocco national team channels, which also revealed an additional friendly fixture against Mozambique. The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), however, is yet to issue an official communication regarding the encounter.

The clash comes at a crucial time for both nations as they fine-tune preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be hosted in Morocco. For the Cranes, the game serves as a perfect test of character and tactical readiness against one of the continent’s most formidable sides.

Beyond the competitive edge, the fixture offers Uganda a valuable opportunity to adapt to Morocco’s weather and playing conditions, vital experience ahead of the AFCON finals scheduled to kick off on December 21.

Sources indicate that the Cranes may also line up another friendly before the tournament, with Chad emerging as a possible sparring partner.

Uganda will have to navigate a challenging AFCON group that includes Nigeria, Tunisia, and Tanzania, a test that will demand discipline and consistency from coach Paul Put’s men.

The meeting in Tangier also brings back memories of the Cranes’ heavy 5-2 defeat to Morocco in the 2021 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Douala, Cameroon, a result Uganda will be keen to avenge as they look to gauge their progress against elite opposition.

The friendly thus marks more than just a warm-up, it is a statement of intent and a vital checkpoint in Uganda’s journey toward AFCON 2025.
