Uganda’s national football team, the Cranes, have dropped one place in the latest FIFA World Rankings published today, slipping from 82nd to 83rd globally.

The minor setback follows a disappointing international break in which Uganda failed to reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup, falling short of even the playoff stage. Despite a 1–0 victory over Botswana in Francistown, a 2–1 loss to Algeria ultimately saw them finish second in Group E.

The new standings also see the Cranes overtaken by Caribbean outfit Curaçao, leaving them narrowly ahead of Kosovo on the global ladder.

Across the East African region, Kenya made progress by climbing to 109th, Tanzania held steady at 107th, Rwanda dropped to 131st, Burundi sit 145th, while South Sudan trail the pack at 167th.

Uganda’s highest-ever position in the FIFA rankings remains 62nd, achieved in January 2016, while their lowest point came in July 2002 when they were ranked 152nd.
