SC Villa continued their scorching run of form on Thursday evening, grinding out a tense 2-1 victory over struggling NEC at the Fufa Stadium, Kadiba, a result that propelled the Jogoos into second place on the Premier League log.
It took until the second half for the contest to spring to life. After a cagey opening 45 minutes in which both sides cancelled each other out, Villa finally cracked the NEC resistance just two minutes after the restart. A cleverly cushioned knockdown from Frank Ssebuufu fell kindly to Najib Yiga, who calmly swept the ball home to ignite the home crowd.
With NEC pushing numbers forward in search of an equaliser, Villa struck what looked like the killer blow three minutes before full-time. A blistering counter-attack sliced through the visitors’ midfield, ending with Man of the Match Hassan Mubiru slipping in substitute Elvis Ngonde, who darted past the helpless Hannington Ssebwalunyo and finished with composure to double the advantage.

NEC, however, refused to leave quietly. Deep into stoppage time, Daniel Shabena capitalised on a lapse in concentration to pull one back and set up a frantic finale. But Villa’s defence held firm, securing a fourth consecutive league win and lifting them to 13 points, just one behind leaders Police, who have played an extra match.
The struggle continues for Badru Kaddu’s NEC, who remain without a win under his watch and sit 12th on six points.
Villa will now turn their attention to a trip to Bombo for a clash against UPDF next week, while NEC prepare to host Calvary at Lugogo on December 25.
