The curtain has officially fallen on the Round of 16 of this year’s Uganda Cup, with Express FC claiming the final quarterfinal berth after an emphatic Friday evening victory.

The knockout phase unfolded over five action-packed days, beginning Monday and concluding Friday, ultimately confirming the eight clubs still in contention for silverware.

The first breakthrough came courtesy of regional side Happy Boys Kagaba, who stunned Six O’Clock. After a tense goalless stalemate in normal time, Kagaba held their nerve to triumph 5-3 in the penalty shootout.

Tuesday delivered a double serving of football at Lugogo. NEC FC set the tone early, brushing aside Lugazi FC 2-0 through strikes from Gideon Odongo and Samuel Ssekamatte. Later, KCCA FC turned on the style with a ruthless 5-0 demolition of Onduparaka FC. Sammy Ssebaduka, Saidi Mayanja, Emmanuel Anyama (brace), and Alex Yiga all found the net in a one-sided affair.

Wednesday belonged to Kitara FC, who recorded the most dominant result of the round, dismantling Bunyaruguru United 6-0 at Royals Park. The goals were shared among Samuel Kato Nemehimana, Gaddafi Wahab, Benjamin Nyakoojo, Living Kabon, George Ssenkaaba, and Jimmy Kalema in a breathtaking attacking display.

On that same day, defending champions Vipers SC asserted their authority with a 4-0 victory over Iganga United. Hillary Mukundane and Gusto Mulongo each grabbed a brace to ensure safe passage.

Thursday’s action saw SC Villa edge Maroons FC in a tightly contested encounter at Kadiba. Andrew Otim proved decisive, netting the only goal to send the Jogoos through.

Friday wrapped things up with two more convincing performances. URA FC comfortably dispatched Tapoh FC 3-0, courtesy of goals from Olimi Nwara, Godfrey Ssekibengo, and captain Moses Okabo Aliro.
