Former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan is poised to embark on a fresh journey off the pitch, as he prepares to take up a coaching role within SC Villa’s rejuvenated youth structure.
The 23-cap international, who officially hung up his gloves in January after a stint of more than two years at NEC FC, is now transitioning into player development. His expected appointment signals a deliberate move by the record Ugandan champions to strengthen their technical foundation at grassroots level.
Ochan’s history with Villa dates back to the 2011/12 season, when he featured under respected tactician Mike Mutebi. However, internal disputes that fractured the club at the time prompted his departure, leading him to continue his career with SC Victoria University.
Now under the stewardship of club president Omar Mandela, SC Villa have renewed focus on youth development, re-establishing a structured pipeline for emerging talent. The program is currently overseen by Nebojsa Kapor, who heads both the youth and reserve sides operating out of the former East High School grounds in Kulambiro.

Sources indicate that Ochan’s inclusion in the setup comes following a recommendation from Ivica Stankovic, the club’s technical advisor responsible for guiding overall football operations. He is expected to serve as the goalkeeping coach, bringing his wealth of experience to nurture the next generation of shot-stoppers.
During his playing days, Ochan also enjoyed notable success with KCCA FC, where he secured three Uganda Premier League titles, cementing his reputation as one of the country’s dependable goalkeepers.
Beyond club commitments, he remains actively involved in football administration as a member of the FUFA Academies League Organising Committee, further underlining his growing influence in youth football development.
His transition from player to mentor represents not just a personal evolution, but also a strategic boost for SC Villa’s long-term ambitions.
