The Uganda Premier League is approaching its most decisive stretch, and as of April 21, 2026, the championship picture remains wide open with several contenders still firmly in the hunt.

At the summit, Vipers SC continue to set the pace with 52 points from 23 outings. Their campaign has been built on remarkable stability, 15 victories, 7 stalemates, and only a single defeat. With 43 goals scored and just 15 conceded, they boast the leagueโ€™s strongest goal difference (+28). That equilibrium between a potent attack and a disciplined defense has been the cornerstone of their lead.

However, their position is far from secure.

Hot on their heels, KCCA FC sit on 48 points, keeping the pressure firmly on the leaders.

Kitara FC follow closely with 47 points, while SC Villa remain in striking distance with 45 points. With such narrow margins separating the top four, the title race could swing dramatically with just one round of results.

Chasing pack refuses to fade

KCCAโ€™s tally of 15 wins mirrors that of Vipers, but five defeats have proven costly in their pursuit of top spot.

Kitara have shown resilience throughout the season, though dropped points, particularly through draws, have slowed their momentum.

SC Villa, meanwhile, are still mathematically alive in the race, but their path likely demands an almost flawless finish to overhaul the sides above them.

Race for fifth intensifies

The battle just below the top four is equally compelling. Gaddafi FC occupy fifth place with 40 points, level with NEC FC. The distinction between the two lies in approach:

  • NECโ€™s campaign has been marked by resilience but also caution, reflected in their 10 draws, the highest among the leagueโ€™s leading teams. Gaddafi, on the other hand, have been more decisive, converting more matches into wins.
  • NECโ€™s current unbeaten streak suggests momentum is building, yet their inability to consistently secure maximum points has kept them from breaking into the top tier.

Mid-table logjam

Further down, positions seven through ten remain tightly contested and highly volatile. Police FC lead this cluster with 38 points, followed by BUL FC (31), Maroons FC (29), and Express FC (29).

In this section of the table, consistency has been elusive. The margins are so fine that a single result can trigger significant movement, making it one of the most unpredictable zones in the competition.

Survival scrap heats up

At the lower end, the fight to avoid relegation is becoming increasingly intense. URA FC hover just above the drop zone with 23 points, but the teams beneath them are closing in.

Lugazi FC (20 points), UPDF FC (17), and Mbarara City FC (16) are all locked in a desperate struggle for survival.

The outlook is particularly grim for Buhimba United Saints FC (15 points) and Calvary FC (9 points). Defensive frailties and prolonged winless runs have left both sides dangerously exposed as the season nears its conclusion.

The final stretch

With 23 matches completed, the league is entering its defining phase. The gap at the top remains slim, the middle of the table is fluid, and the relegation battle is far from settled.

The pattern so far is clear: consistency wins points, and points decide titles.
