Few sides have managed to leave Yumbe with maximum points this season, and KCCA FC have now joined that list of victims after falling 1-0 to Calvary FC at Midigo Primary School Playground on Saturday.

The defeat deals a significant blow to KCCA’s title ambitions, handing Vipers SC the initiative in the race for top spot ahead of their Sunday fixture. Having gone into the weekend hoping to tighten the gap, the Kasasiro Boys instead find themselves under mounting pressure.

Calvary, meanwhile, delivered a disciplined and determined performance, capitalizing on their moment just after the hour mark. Lawrence Olaboro struck what proved to be the decisive goal, finishing off a move that ultimately separated the two sides in a tightly contested encounter.

KCCA’s task was made more difficult by a heavily depleted squad. The visitors were without more than a dozen first-team players, including Herbert Achayi, Gavin Kizito, Filbert Obenchan, and Alex Yiga, leaving them short on both depth and cohesion.

The result leaves KCCA stuck on 51 points, still second but now trailing leaders Vipers by four points, with the Venoms holding a game in hand.

For Calvary, however, this was a result of immense significance. Although they remain rooted to the foot of the table with 13 points, the gap to safety has been cut to just four, breathing fresh life into their survival hopes.

Their recent upturn in form has been striking. In their last four outings, Calvary have registered two wins and two draws without conceding a single goal. That run includes a 2-0 victory over Buhimba United, stalemates against Lugazi and Kitara, and now this crucial triumph over KCCA.

With renewed belief and defensive solidity, Calvary are beginning to look like a side capable of staging a late escape.
