Kitara FC delivered a statement performance at Royals Park in Butema, dispatching SC Villa 2-0 in a result that significantly reshapes the Uganda Premier League title picture.

The hosts wasted little time asserting themselves, controlling the tempo and capitalizing on their early momentum with two well-crafted first-half goals. Patrick Henry Kaddu opened the scoring in the 28th minute, calmly finishing after a precise setup from Yunus Sibira. The advantage reflected Kitara’s sharper attacking intent and ability to exploit spaces in Villa’s defense.

Before the visitors could recover, Kitara struck again. Sibira turned from provider to scorer, rising to meet a pinpoint delivery from Jimmy Kalema and doubling the lead just before the interval. The second goal effectively put the hosts in firm control heading into halftime.

SC Villa, known for their pedigree and resilience, had opportunities to claw their way back into the contest. Their leading marksman Frank Ssebuufu came closest, first with a header that drifted off target before the break, and later with another promising chance denied by Kitara goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige, ironically a former Villa player.

Despite improved urgency after the restart, the Jogoos struggled to break down a disciplined Kitara backline. The hosts managed the game efficiently in the second half, closing out a crucial victory without conceding.

The win lifts Kitara to second place on 54 points, narrowing the gap between leaders Vipers SC to just five points and intensifying the title race heading into the last stretch. For Villa, the defeat is a heavy blow; they remain fourth on 51 points, now eight adrift of the summit with only four matches left.

Attention quickly shifts to cup action, with Kitara set for a high-stakes clash against Vipers in the Stanbic Uganda Cup semifinal first leg on Sunday, while Villa prepare to face URA FC on Monday.
