Exclusively speaking to Footy-Uganda, Uganda Cranes right-back Gavin Kizito has underlined the team is ready to rise to the challenge when they face Senegal in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) quarterfinals on Saturday at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

The Cranes booked their historic spot in the last eight after a dramatic 3-3 draw with South Africa, while defending champions Senegal advanced as runners-up in Group D with five points, behind leaders Sudan.

“This is a huge opportunity for us as a team and for the country,” Kizito exclusively told Footy-Uganda after Wednesday’s morning training session. “Qualifying for the quarterfinals was special, but we are not done yet. We want to keep making history.”

Despite acknowledging Senegal’s quality, the marauding right-back insists the Cranes are approaching the game with belief.

“Senegal is a strong side with good organization, but we are not afraid. We trust our style and the hard work we’ve put in. Playing at Namboole in front of our fans will give us extra energy. We know Uganda is behind us, and that is powerful,” he noted.

Kizito emphasized that the bond in the squad has been key to their progress.

“The unity in this team is something else. Everyone is ready to fight for the badge, and that spirit can push us past Senegal,” he added.

The victor will take on the winner between Tanzania and two-time champions Morocco in the semifinals, with the two playing on Friday.
