NEC FC have secured the long-term services of goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo after the Uganda Premier League club confirmed that the shot-stopper has signed a fresh three-year contract that will keep him at the Diehards until 2029.
The new agreement rewards a goalkeeper who has steadily grown into one of NEC FC’s most influential figures since arriving at the club in June 2024.
Ssebwalunyo has established himself as a dependable presence in goal, combining assured handling and composure with the kind of consistency that has made him an integral part of NEC’s defensive structure.
His importance to the team extends beyond his work between the posts. The goalkeeper has assumed a leadership role within the dressing room and currently serves as vice-captain, underlining the trust placed in him by the club.
He has also proved an unlikely threat from the penalty spot, displaying remarkable calmness when stepping forward to take spot-kicks for the Diehards.
The 2025/26 campaign proved particularly productive for Ssebwalunyo. He featured in 23 Uganda Premier League matches, accumulating 2,070 minutes while registering an impressive 13 clean sheets.
He even found the net twice during the league campaign, an exceptional return for a goalkeeper.
His consistency between the posts was recognised at the end of the season when he was awarded the StarTimes Uganda Premier League Golden Glove for the 2025/26 campaign.
Ssebwalunyo further strengthened his credentials in the Uganda Cup, adding four more clean sheets to his tally and finishing the season with 16 shutouts across all competitions.
Following the completion of his new deal, the goalkeeper expressed his delight at remaining with NEC while acknowledging the club’s unfinished business in the pursuit of major honours.
“I feel happy extending my stay at NEC FC. Despite the fact that I haven’t been able to achieve silverware for the club, which I believe is something missing, I and my teammates are working towards that. To our fans, I appreciate you for standing with us, and I promise you a season full of hard work and achieving many things with us.”
The extension represents a significant show of faith from NEC FC, who have moved to tie down one of the most dependable goalkeepers in their squad as they shape their team for the seasons ahead.
With Ssebwalunyo now contracted through 2029, the Diehards can look forward to retaining not only a proven performer but also an influential leader whose performances, penalty-taking ability and experience have become valuable assets to the club.
NEC FC will hope his continued presence can help inspire the side to convert its growing ambitions into silverware in the seasons ahead.
