BUL FC are closing in on the signing of goalkeeper Jeans Wokorach, with the experienced shot-stopper expected to join the Eastern Giants after leaving SC Villa, Footy-Uganda understands.
The 27-year-old is currently training with Alex Isabirye’s side as negotiations progress towards a deal, having become a free agent following the expiration of his contract at Villa. Attempts to extend his stay at the record Uganda Premier League champions ultimately failed, paving the way for his anticipated switch to Jinja.
BUL have prioritized the recruitment of a goalkeeper following the departure of Thomas Ikara, who recently completed a move to Kenyan Premier League outfit AFC Leopards. Wokorach has emerged as the club’s preferred replacement, with Farouk Yawe and John Okurut currently the only senior goalkeepers available in the squad.
A product of Ndejje University, Wokorach has built a reputation as one of the league’s dependable goalkeepers. He arrived at SC Villa from NEC FC in 2023 and enjoyed immediate success, helping the Jogoos lift the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League title.
However, opportunities became increasingly limited last season as David Lukwago established himself as Villa’s first-choice goalkeeper. Wokorach featured in just three league matches throughout the campaign before seeing his contract run out.
His departure, alongside that of Norman Angufindru, has left Villa searching for reinforcements between the posts, with Hassan Matovu and Henry Mwebe among the goalkeepers being considered.
Meanwhile, BUL continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign. The club has already secured the services of former SC Villa defender Cyrus Kibande on a free transfer, while Faizo Matovu, Derrick Byabachwezi, Edward Satulo, Frank Katongole, Umar Lutalo and George Masembe have also been added as Alex Isabirye reshapes his squad for the upcoming season.
