Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put has shed light on the decision to reinstate midfield duo Bobosi Byaruhanga and Allan Oyirwoth for the decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers this month.

The pair, who were left out of the last international window, have been recalled as the Cranes prepare for a crucial double-header against Botswana and Algeria on October 9 and 14. Oyirwoth, in particular, has been absent from the squad since his appearance on Matchday 2 against Somalia in Morocco.

Explaining his choices, Put praised the versatility and reliability of Byaruhanga.

“Bobosi has shown that he can play in different positions, defence, defensive midfield, attacking midfield, he is talented and reliable,” the Belgian tactician remarked.

On Oyirwoth, the coach hinted at his potential to attract attention abroad, stressing that the youngster needs to seize the opportunity with the national team first:

“For Oyirwoth, hopefully what we hear is true that some European teams want him. That’s what we want, but first, let him prove himself on the national team.”

The midfield battle in the Cranes camp is set to intensify, with the two returnees joining experienced captain Khalid Aucho, Kenneth Ssemakula, Ronald Ssekiganda, and Enock Ssebagala in the competition for starting spots.

Uganda sits at a delicate stage of qualification, with maximum points from the upcoming fixtures vital to keep their World Cup dream alive.
