Kitara FC saw their Uganda Premier League title ambitions take a significant hit after being held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by struggling Calvary FC at Royal Park Butema on Wednesday.

Heading into the fixture as clear favorites, Kitara were expected to claim maximum points against a Calvary side rooted to the bottom of the Uganda Premier League table.

However, the hosts produced a resilient defensive display to deny the visitors, frustrating them throughout the contest.

Kitara dominated possession for large spells and created several half-chances, but lacked the cutting edge in the final third. Their attacking play often broke down against a compact Calvary backline that remained disciplined and organized, with the hosts occasionally threatening on the counter.

The result sees Kitara slip to fourth place on 48 points, now seven adrift of leaders Vipers SC, who sit comfortably at the summit with 55 points. With only six matches remaining in the season, the dropped points could prove costly in the title race, where consistency is now paramount.

For Calvary, the draw offers a rare positive in an otherwise difficult campaign. Still bottom of the table with just 10 points, their fight against relegation remains steep. Yet, holding one of the league’s top sides could provide a morale boost as they battle to keep their survival hopes alive in the closing weeks.

Kitara will now be left ruing a missed opportunity, knowing that anything less than near-perfect results in the run-in could see their championship dreams slip away.
