Veteran Ugandan goalkeeper Nicholas Sebwato has sealed a move to Rwanda Premier League outfit Amagaju FC, bringing an end to an illustrious five-year spell with Mukura Victory Sport.
The experienced shot-stopper joins Amagaju on a one-year contract, arriving as one of the division’s most accomplished goalkeepers after establishing himself as a commanding presence between the posts in Rwanda.
Sebwato leaves Mukura having carved out a remarkable legacy. Beyond becoming a dependable last line of defence, he captained the club over the past two seasons and earned widespread admiration for his leadership both on and off the pitch.
His finest individual campaign came in 2025 when he was crowned the Rwanda Premier League’s Best Goalkeeper after registering an impressive 13 clean sheets, underlining his consistency and influence throughout the season.
While his reputation has largely been built on match-winning saves, Sebwato also produced unforgettable moments at the opposite end of the pitch. During Mukura’s turbulent 2023/24 campaign, the goalkeeper astonishingly found the net twice, scoring crucial goals that proved vital in the club’s fight for survival.
He now begins a fresh challenge with an Amagaju side determined to avoid another difficult campaign after narrowly escaping relegation last season. The club finished just one place above the drop zone and will hope Sebwato’s wealth of experience, composure and leadership can help stabilise the team.
Amagaju’s squad already features another familiar Ugandan face in defender Shafik Bakaki, formerly of SC Villa, Vipers SC and Express FC, who joined the club last season following his exit from Musanze FC.
Sebwato arrives with a wealth of experience accumulated across East African football. Besides his successful stint at Mukura Victory Sport, he has previously featured for KCCA FC, SC Villa, Onduparaka FC, Soltilo Bright Stars, Kenya’s Sofapaka and Tanzania’s Coastal Union, making him one of Uganda’s most travelled and accomplished goalkeepers.
